Zahrádková, Marie ; TŮMA, Jaroslav (advisor) ; POPELKA, Josef (referee)
This diploma thesis deals with a prominent French composer, organist and pedagogue Olivier Messiaen and his organ works. The first part of the thesis brings relevant biographic information on the composer, overview of his works, compositional inspiration and specifies facets and components of Messiaens?s musical language (rhythm, harmony, melody, forms). In the following part, the focus of the thesis shifts to organ works: not merely to composition techniques but primarily to more thorough analysis of particular sheet music ? not however from the traditional musical-analytic perspective, but rather from outside-of-music, often theological context. The main goal of the thesis is to gain an insight into the core of Messiaens?s composition techniques, inspirations and motivations through the understanding of his music language as well as his life and philosophical perspectives. Uniqueness of this creator will be demonstrated by the analysis of the Gregorian melodies, Bible quotations and liturgical texts of the pieces ?Priere avant la communio? and ?La Nativité du Seigneur.?

Nosek, Aleš ; ČERNÝ, Pavel (advisor) ; POPELKA, Josef (referee)
My diploma work named Organ culture of Rakovník dealt in the first chapter with the oldest known music formation in an area of the town. Mainly about those, which has their origin in the saint (St.) Bartholomews church, where besides most of the music in the history carried out and where also was and is the centre of the organ culture in the surrounding of Rakovník. I mention first organists, who studied the organ mainly at the Prague organists school or later on the Conservatoire. But they almost did not promote by the church and finally they leave the town completety. The second chapter briefly dealt with the self history of the St. Bartholomews churých. And after it mainly about the organs, which were situated here starting with the 16th century over the 17th ? the organ of Tobiáš Hanzal from the year 1610. Then disputable epoch of the 18th century, where sources of information diverge in the origin of the baroque organ. And the sub-chapter is ended with the current instrument from the year 1896 from the Prager organist Emanuel Štěpán Petr op. 94. In the third chapter I write about the organists and organs, which are found in the close surroundings of the town Rakovník. The canton is, for better ilustration, described from more points of view. It is dealt with various outer-region organ companies, which has built their instruments in our canton. Important company in our region is the organ-clan of Guth.
Organ and its Place in catholic Liturgy
Flamíková, Eva ; TŮMA, Jaroslav (advisor) ; POPELKA, Josef (referee)
Throughout the history the organ has become a musical instrument of the Catholic Church temple. It has become a sacred instrument celebrating the God fully reflecting His majesty. During its historic development in the Catholic Liturgy the role of organ kept being restated as well as the expression of its sound. There has always been a lot of place for art in the Catholic Church. The organ as a musical instrument of the temple has become an integrated part of its beauty, nobility and dignity. Changes in the history bring changes into art, church and humanity and sometimes it can be seen that the two inseparable parts of life ? the profane and religious are put in contradiction. Then it is important to vindicate the value and position of the temple in life and so the existence of the liturgical instrument ? the organ. In spite of certain skepticism attacking liturgical congregations and their importance defending voices of popes, organists and believers themselves can still be clearly heard. They speak about a great value we have inherited from famous composers but also about life of our ancestors who have built organs to bring their spirits closer to the God and the truthful life. It is very important to spread this tradition in the present days too.
Position of church Organist in the czech Lands
Kšica, Přemysl ; POPELKA, Josef (advisor) ; TŮMA, Jaroslav (referee)
Nowadays we can be witnesses of an opinion, that in czech country was always in the area of czech church music strong tradition amateur musicians´ influence. Supposedly, that it ever was, is correct, that it is still also today. An aim of this work is not to declaim a role of amateur musicians, but an effort to point to aspects, when is required, even irreplaceable a profesionality. It should be awarded a proper significance, which is unfortunately not always well understanded. In a church praxis is often made a difference in an attitude, if it is about amateur organist or profesionalist, and not just in a financial apprasial point of view.
