The influence of Central European modernity on Serbian postmodern literature

The submitted work engages into the relationship between Central European literature and Serbian postmodern literature. Initially, the work defines the character of Central European modern fiction on the ground of its West European literary predecessors. It points out following features of Central European modern fiction: fragmentation of the narrative; dissapearance of existing world, which has guranteed solid values; existence of a parallel "fiction world", which gradually absorbs its protagonist, and the emphasis on sin. The first part of the work is accompanied by a brief outline of Serbian modern and avant-gard literature. The second part of the dissertation gives a theoretical definition of postmodern literature. After a short characteristics of two crucial Serbain postmodernists: Milorad Pavić and Dragan Velikić, the work intends to look for characteristic modern themes and various ways in which they are applied. Some themes accentuated by Central European authors (such as the existence of the paralel "fiction world") are to be found in the work of Velikić as well as Pavić. Some modern Central European themes are completely absent in thein novels. Second part of the book also gives a short characteristic of the post-modern literature in other Balkan countries such as Bulgaria or Croatia.

Fair Vida: from popular ballad to drama of desire

Krásnou Vidu lze považovat za jeden z ústředních symbolů slovinské literatury. S tím souvisí i její obsahová šíře. Od dob vzniku lidové písně, která ve formě balady zaznamenala konkrétní historickou událost, se tento motiv stal jedním z nejrozsáhlejších zdrojů literární inspirace. Svědčí o tom jeho mnohá zpracování autory 19. a 20. století.126 Postupně se rozšiřoval o psychologické a antropologické přístupy, čímž se otevíralo spektrum interpretací. Lidová píseň o Krásné Vidě nebyla v 19. století již pouhým "historickým obrazem", ale žila svým vlastním životem, coby básnický útvar. Jako taková se stala motivací pro romantického básníka France Prešerna, který ji zbavil lidové epičnosti a vystavěl ji podle pravidel romantické lyriky. Promítl do ní vnitřní rozpor mezi ideálem a skutečností, přičemž zdůraznil toužení po nedosažitelném. Krásná Vida, v díle Ivana Cankara a bezpochyby i ostatních spisovatelů, není již Vida z lidové písně, ale především Prešernova Krásná Vida. Krásná Vida se mění ve slovinské literatuře především pode toho, co jednotliví autoři považovali za příčinu Vidina toužení. Původní lidová píseň je v tomto případě nejméně konkrétní. Poskytuje nicméně několik společných motivů. Vidu vyžene do světa neuvážené manželství, nemoc dítěte, špatná materiální situace, ale především naděje, že dostane...

Development and Perception of the Sinjska Alka

! Abstract ! This paper presents Sinjska alka, a knight's jousting tournament that has been held for the last three centuries in the town of Sinj. The paper aims to enlighten even a layman as to not only the particularities of the tournament, but also the region where it is set: the region of Cetina. In this paper, I have strived to put the development of the Sinj alka itself into a broader historical context. It not only pays special attention to the proceedings of the tournament proper, but it also focuses on the accompanying elements (the festive procession, Alka costumes, Alka tournament arms and organization of the Alka Tournament Society). The paper is supplemented with historical and contemporary photos that should bring the visual aspect of this famous Croatian tournament closer. !

Croatian minority in Hungary in modern era

The goal of this thesis is to analyze the current situation of the Croat minority in Hungary. As a consequence of the Ottoman expansion and unbearable living conditions the Croat population started to migrate to the North; these migrations took place from the 15th to the 17th century and the majority of the Croat refugees settled down in Hungary. The refugees created insular communities in the southern and western parts of the contemporary Hungarian territory, in Austrian Burgenland, Slovakia and Moravia. Hungarian Croats can be divided into seven groups, all of them speaking various types of all main Croatian dialects. A special part of the thesis is dedicated to the Bunjevci and Šokci, as in the last two hundred years there have been constant discussions as far as their origin and, therefore, their pertinence to the Croatian nation is concerned. Under the Austro-Hungarian Empire the Croats represented only one of many nationalities in a multicultural state. However, during the process of the formation of the modern nations, Hungarian nationalism was strongly promoted and it in turn influenced minority politics until the Second World War. Momo Kapor: Magija Beograda - commented rendition of a narrative cycle

Short story cycle Magija Beograda (2008, The Magic of Belgrade, Czech anthology Belgrade, my magic love!, 2014) is one of the last works of Serbian author Momo Kapor. His subject matter is contemporary picture of Belgrade and characters in his work are people, who are emotionally bound to this city. The aim of this dissertation is to introduce a Czech translation of the short stories and their translatological commentary. This work deals with the theme of Belgrade work of Kapor, which the author engaged in throughout his whole life and wrote in this style for more than ten years. This area of his work still does not have a Czech literary translation. This dissertation also brings more coherent author's portrait. Pivotal part consists of two chapters, first one is devoted to the profile of the author and the second one to the translation and commentary.

The Ideology, the Play, the Secret: The Role of the Slovene Contemporary Fairy-tale in 1945-1975

The thesis deals with shapes of the Slovene fantastic tale in the 1945-1975's and looks into the roles which have been assigned to it by it's authors. The thesis assumes that during this period, there were three basic types of authorial approach: fantastic tale in the service of the state ideology, fantastic tale as a free play of imagination and fantastic tale with overlap. These three roles are analyzed on the example of nine fantastic tales, most of them being from the literary canon of the Slovene children's literature: Udarna brigada (Anton Ingolič), Zgode in nezgode kraljevskega dvora (Milan Šega), Drejček in trije Marsovčki (Vid Pečjak), Moj dežnik je lahko balon (Ela Peroci), Strah ima velike oči (Marjan Marinc), Kosovirja na leteči žlici (Svetlana Makarovič), Potovanje v tisočera mesta (Vitomil Zupan), Deklica Delfina in lisica Zvitorepka (Kristina Brenkova) and Avtomoto mravlje (Jože Snoj).

The serbian story in the second half of 19th century

This thesis is concerned with serbian literature of the second half of 19th century. It describes the main features of the serbian literary realism. More focus is given to the serbian realistic story and its main authors. In the context of this dominant genre deeper tought is given to the rural enviroment of the serbian realistic story. Mainly describing its roots, atributes and the work of the most significant authors of this genre which are Milovan Glišić, Laza Lazarević and Janko Veselinović. Specifics of translation children's literature on the example of translations of selected Croatian and Czech literary works

The objective of this thesis is to define specific problems of translating for children, based on scientific works of well-known translatologists who deal with translation of children's literature. The specific problems are, for example, the dual audience, visual and acoustic aspect of the literary works, question of censorship, didactic function of the children's literature and other creative problems. These problems are considered when analyzing the translations of chosen Czech works for children, into Croatian. The analytical part of the thesis is the study of the degree to which translators consider these specific problems of translating for children, during the process of translation. Further, the thesis surveys the situation in the field of translation of children's literature between Czech and Croatian, and evaluates the quality of the works chosen for translation, based on comparison of the evolution 4 of the two literary systems. This comparison showed, that there are more children's books translated from Czech into Croatian than in the opposite direction, and that the Czech children's books chosen for translation are of higher literary quality. Zagreb in Croatian Urban Prose at the Turn of the 20th and 21st Century

Resumé Diploma thesis Zagreb in Croatian urban prose at the turn of 20th and 21st century deals with roles and influence of the Croatian capital on main characters of selected works of mentioned authors. The turn of the century was chosen deliberately, due to the disintegration of Yugoslavia, subsequent war conflict in Balkan and postwar search for certainties. These factors led to migration of a huge amount of people, e.g. into the area of New Zagreb which is an important urban feature of Croatian metropolis and therefore of this thesis. This thesis will try to clarify through the main characters of selected works the turbulent events and uncertain life circumstances from the end of the previous century and from the beginning of the new one which meant for some people a change of their lifestyle and stabilized order.
