Utilization of recycled brick waste for growing the agricultural plants

The master thesis follows up on previous bachelor thesis, which dealt with the sorption capacity of brick recyclate. Brick recyclate, as same as brick, excel with very high porosity. For this reason this work deals with possible implementation of plant growth aids (fertilizers) on the inside surface of such highly porous material This thesis studies possibilities of preparation of brick recyclate with the content of components supporting plant growth. It is a material, that is able to bind water in the soil and nourish cultivated plants at the same time. Aim of the work is to find out, what maximum amount of supporting substances, that later will be released back into surrounding enviroment (soil), is possible to incorporate into the brick recyclate. Such prepared recyclate was added in different amounts into predefined substrates, where plants were grown. Subsequently, the growth course, germination and yields of selected crops were monitored. It was verified that the material based on recycled brick enriched with nutrients improves the distribution of nutrients in the soil and positively affects the germination, growth and yields of tested crops.
Inorganic thermal insulation material for masonry elements

This master’s thesis deals with preparation of foam glass and explores the possibilies of utilization of this material as an inorganic thermal insulating filler of fired hollow bricks. Foam glass was prepared via powder sintering method from waste packaging glass, using limestone and graphite as foaming agents. After inital analysis of raw materials, the effect of mixture composition and different processing parameters on bulk density, pore size and morphology of foam glass was investigated. Last but not least, different ways of manufacturing thermal insulating bricks, by preparation of foam glass directly in the cavities of fired hollow bricks, were tested.
Utilization of mica separated from washed kaolin

The Master’s Thesis aims to laboratory test the possibilities of utilization mica separate, which arises during the process of floating kaolin as a by-product together with sand. Mica and sand are then separated by flotation or vibration. The mica separate thus formed was subjected to analysis. XRD and heating microscopy methods were used for analysis. Subsequently, experiments with mica separation as a filler in composites based on epoxy resins were set up and performed. Furthermore, the separate was tested as a part of plasters and visual building elements. Last but not least, the separate was mixed into the ceramic, which was then subjected to firing in the selected mode. The diploma thesis provides a comprehensive overview of the above-mentioned possibilities of using mica separation, which is based on a sufficient amount of experimental data.
Enamels containing recycled brick waste

The diploma thesis deals with the possibilities of using recycled brick as a component in the preparation of glazes. Recycled brick is a mixture of crushed bricks, it can also contain a brick tablecloth, its composition and color makes this material practically identical to a brick shard. Due to these properties, it can be assumed that recycled brick can be used to prepare technical glazes with a specific color. The aim of the diploma thesis is to verify the possibilities of using recycled brick for the preparation of technical glazes. For prepared glazes, then evaluate their properties and estimate for which type of product these alternative glazes could be used.
Testing, routing and QoS in private networks

This thesis concerns the interaction of technologies of routing with ensuring the quality of services. It focuses on the function of routing protocols RIP and OSPF in combination with FIFO, PQ and WFQ queues of the technology DiffServ. The main output consists of two complex laboratory tasks. The first deals with theoretical research of the two mentioned above Riverbed programme technologies. The second subsequent task uses the emulator EVE-NG to aim the verification as well as deepening the acquired theoretical knowledge in practise.
Preparation of historical binders with high resistance to ambient influences

This master’s thesis is focused on preparation of the mortar mixtures inspired by roman cement with a great resistivity against the corrosion environment, especially a seawater. There were prepared samples of a roman cement containing of pure lime and various artificial pozzolans and natural tuff which were used as pozzolan admixtures. The task of this work is to explore possibility of using pure lime and for example pozzolan admixture which can resist against the corrosive environment like a roman cement. There were prepared a lot of various samples which were tested separately on their mechanical characteristics before and after their exposure of the influence of the corrosive environment. There were used X-ray diffraction analysis for the characterization of a phase composition of the raw materials and some selected samples.
Brick recycled as a raw material for the production of refractories for the brick industry

The focus of this thesis is the study of behavior of brick waste in the mixture with high alumina cement. The result of this research should be a draft of a composition and production process for material that could partly or fully substitute forging accessories in the brick production industry. The aim of this work is to verify the use of brick waste for such purpose. Usage of brick waste for refractories can help the current long-term effort for wasteless production processes.
Possibilities of using recycled brick in binders systems with p-clinker content

This diploma thesis deals with the preparation binder systems based on Portland clinker and recycled brick. Recycled brick is considered a waste material from construction or production of brick products. This thesis uses finely grounded brick recycled and brick dust, which is produced during final processing of burnt bricks. By incorporating brick dust in alternative system based on Portland clinker could bring ecological and economic benefits. This diploma thesis deals with option using brick dust as pozzolan admixture to Portland clinker, with the aim to prepare and test Portland cement, which is defined in v ČSN EN 197-1. This thesis also deals with possibility preparation of alternative binders based on p-clinker, but those not defined by ČSN EN 197-1. Specifically these are ternary binders with fluid bed ash and binders based on hybrid cements containing sodium sulfate.
Utilisation of brick recycled materials for water retention in soils

This bachelor´s thesis deals with possible utilizations of brick recyclate as an element which cooperates in the field of water retention in the landscape, especially in agricultural soils. Brick recyclate has the same composition and properties as a classic burnt brick, and therefore is very wettable and porous. Above all, these properties are the key element to using brick recyclate as a water holding element in the soil. The aim of this thesis was to determine the ability of brick recyclate to retain water in the soil and then release it back into the soil. Various fractions of brick recyclate were tested experimentally. First experiments were performed with fine quartz sand, and then with two different real samples of soils.. The time for the evaporation of all the added water from the test mixture was assessed. For real samples of soils, experiments continued on the plants under defined laboratory conditions.
Possibilities of utilisation of salt slags from aluminum production

Bachelor thesis deals with characterisation of salt slag formed during melting of aluminium scrap in rotary furnaces and proposes options of utilization of this material as a secondary raw material. Samples from top, middle and bottom part of mould, where slag cools down after the melting process is finished, were tested. Aim of the thesis is also to evaluate the effect of air access during the cooling process on phase and chemical composition of salt slag. Particle size distribution, content of soluble substances and composition were examined in collected samples. Phase and chemical compositions of both soluble and insoluble portion of idividual fractions were determined using X-ray powder diffraction and X-ray fluorescence spectrometry.
