Media image analysis of the corruption in Czech soccer between 2013 and 2023
Kotalíková, Julie ; Brunclík, Miloš (advisor) ; Doboš, Bohumil (referee)
The topic of my thesis is the analysis of the media image of corruption in Czech soccer between 2013-2023. In my research, I will focus on the corruption case of Roman Berber, which took place during the period under study. Football is one of the most popular sports in the Czech Republic and certainly the most widely played, which makes it more popular for the media and for collusion. The first part of the thesis describes the phenomenon of corruption as such. The second part is conceived descriptively with a brief description of the football system in the Czech Republic and also outlines the course of the 2020 corruption case. The media image analysis maps corruption in Czech soccer through the media space of public and commercial media. It focuses on the biggest corruption case that has erupted in the Czech Republic in this sport in the last ten years. In any case, football is one of the places where the phenomenon of corruption can be encountered, as in many other places in society.
Tactics and strategies of the opposition - obstructions as a political weapon
Pchálková, Tereza ; Brunclík, Miloš (advisor) ; Jágr, David (referee)
The thesis focuses on the phenomenon of obstruction in the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the Czech Republic in the eighth and ninth electoral terms, which is specific to the exchange of political parties in the executive and opposition roles. Theoretically, the thesis is set in the themes of opposition and obstruction. For this, the literature is primarily based on Miroslav Novák's article Political Party Systems and Basic Models of Opposition, Michal Kubát's publication Political Opposition in Theory and Central European Practice, Jan Wintr's book Czech Parliamentary Culture, and the Rules of Procedure of the Lower House of Parliament, resp. its annotated version by Jindřiška Syllová and colleagues. During theoretical research, the author came across an insufficient interpretation of the term and therefore came up with her own definition. The author of the thesis set the research question: How does the obstruction strategy of political parties of the opposition differ? and attempts to answer it through qualitative research. The subject of analysis in the thesis are case studies of two state budget bills, namely for 2021 and 2024, for which all three legislative readings were examined. The incidence of filibusters is then tracked through four codes: length of debate, factual remarks,...
The motive of choosing the "lesser evil" in the first round of the Election of the President of the Czech Republic 2023 and its impact on the result
Vaníček, Jakub ; Stauber, Jakub (advisor) ; Brunclík, Miloš (referee)
This bachelor thesis focuses on strategic voting in the first round of the presidential election of the Czech Republic in 2023. In the theoretical part, the author describes the basic concepts of strategic voting and the psychological influence of electoral systems on voter's decision- making. The main goal of the thesis is to discover the extent to which strategic voting occurred in the first round of the presidential election in the Czech Republic in 2023. For this purpose, the Naše společnost - 2022 listopad dataset processed by CVVM Sociologického ústavu Akademie věd ČR is analysed in the practical part. The analysed dataset consists of 901 respondents, the share of strategic voters was measured on an adjusted sample comprised of 492 respondents. In this sample, a share of 5,89% strategic voters has been identified. This result has been recognised as comparable with the results of foreign research on this topic. The analysis indicates that strategic voters consider the advance of their chosen candidate to the second round of the election to be of similar importance as sincere voters. From the available data, Andrej Babiš has been identified as the candidate who received a higher number of votes in the first round of the 2023 presidential election thanks to strategic voting. The thesis outlines...
Electronic Elections as a Phenomenon and Potential of 21st Century
Fiedler, Jan ; Stauber, Jakub (advisor) ; Brunclík, Miloš (referee)
The Master's thesis examines the phenomenon of electronic elections in the definition of an alternative method of remote voting via the Internet and combines the approach of a survey paper and a case study. The theoretical basis of the thesis is a description of the concept of e- democracy, postal voting and electronic elections, a definition of the typology of this alternative method and the accentuated risks, a summary of the general development of the debate in the Czech environment and an analysis of the process of the initial phase of implementation of electronic elections in the electoral systems of Estonia, Norway and Switzerland. The theoretical background is followed by an analytical section on these selected countries, which examines the characteristics of case-by-case approaches to the implementation and risks of e- elections and the potential impacts on selected indicators such as voter turnout and global state of democracy indices. The analysis of the aspects is conducted in a consecutive and separate categorical framework, whereby the issues are viewed from the specific perspectives of the countries in question, taking into account the differences in political systems. Final implications and conclusions are drawn in the context of a higher level of relevance based on a comparison of...
The role of the Speakers in the Parliaments: the British Parliament in comparative perspective
Krahulíková, Aneta ; Říchová, Blanka (advisor) ; Brunclík, Miloš (referee)
The thesis deals with the position of the Speaker of the House of Commons of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. It analyses the position of the Speakers of the parliaments in six selected cases, which are the devolved parliaments and the parliaments of Crown dependencies. The thesis aims to determine whether the position of the Speaker of the parliament in the devolved parliaments of Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland, and the parliaments of Crown dependencies, namely the Isle of Man, Jersey, and Guernsey, is derived from the British model. The first part of the thesis introduces the institution of the Speaker of the House of Commons of the United Kingdom and its significant position within the Westminster Parliament. The thesis then examines the position of the Speakers of the devolved parliaments of Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland, which were established as part of the devolution process in 1998. It then analyses the position of the Speakers in the parliaments of the Isle of Man, Jersey, and Guernsey, which have been Crown dependencies of the United Kingdom since 1801. The last part of the thesis compares the selected cases with the case of the United Kingdom, identifying the shared and different aspects of the position of the Speakers of the parliaments. The...
Panachage as a tool for personalization of local politics: Case Study of The Federal Republic of Germany
Michálková, Aneta ; Jüptner, Petr (advisor) ; Brunclík, Miloš (referee)
This thesis aims to investigate the level of use of vote-splitting as a tool for policy personalisation in the Federal Republic of Germany. In the theoretical part, the thesis focuses on defining the topic of personalisation and the reason why it is rooted in politics. Furthermore, the thesis focuses on defining policy personalisation and its types. Subsequently, the thesis studies the instruments of policy personalisation, which undoubtedly includes personal voting, further developed in a separate chapter on vote-splitting. The empirical section consists of three parts. The first part focuses on a literature analysis of the German literature and how it analyses the issue of vote-splitting. The next part deals with defining the federal states that use vote- splitting. These will be analysed in the last part. In the selected federal states, a random selection of municipalities was made, namely two municipalities from each size category. For these municipalities, the results of the municipal elections were obtained, including the position of the candidates on the candidate list. This data was finally analysed in aggregate and compared to see whether candidates moved up on the list and, if so, whether they gained seats by moving up. If so, this was likely due to vote-splitting. Finally, this data was...
Direct Democracy and Referendum in the Ukrainian Political System
Storchak, Yelyzaveta ; Mlejnek, Josef (advisor) ; Brunclík, Miloš (referee)
The thesis examines the role of direct democracy and referendum in the Ukrainian political system between 1991 and 2022. Comparative analysis was chosen as the main research method to identify the historical roots and development of direct democracy in Ukraine. The aim of the paper is to explore the advantages and disadvantages of direct democracy in the country's political system, especially during the presidency of Volodymyr Zelensky. The thesis asks three main research questions: the advantages of the current application of direct democracy in the Ukrainian political system, the identification of the disadvantages of this approach, and an analysis of the comparison of the new legislation adopted under President Zelensky with previous experiences with direct democracy. The thesis is divided into theoretical and practical parts. The first part deals with key concepts and theoretical aspects related to direct democracy and the referendum as its instrument. The second part complements the analysis with a historical retrospective of referendums in Ukraine and an overview of the legislation governing this area. Particular attention is paid to the analysis of legislation adopted under President Zelensky and its relevance to the experience of direct democracy in Ukraine. The study concludes that the...
Country-level Electoral coalitions in the Czech Republic
Snížek, Jan ; Stauber, Jakub (advisor) ; Brunclík, Miloš (referee)
The issue of coalitions is a traditional political science topic closely related to electoral systems, party systems and party theory. In the Czech and foreign literature, however, political scientists mostly deal only with coalitions that emerge after elections. That is why I have chosen for my diplo-m thesis the research of pre-election coalitions. In my thesis I conduct research on electoral coalitions that ran for the Chamber of Deputies of the Czech Republic or the Czech National Council. I have chosen this topic also because in the last parliamentary elections in 2021 two electoral coalitions successfully ran for election and then formed a joint government. In this thesis, I deal with the Christian Democratic Union (KDU), ODS and KDS coalitions, the Left Bloc coalition, the Liberal Social Union, the Four Coalitions, SPOLU and the coalition of the Pirates and the Mayors. I have researched all these electoral coalitions and analysed their functioning, behaviour, ideological interconnectedness and post-election behaviour and action on the political scene. For this thesis I used academic literature, newspaper articles from the time of the coalitions' functioning, parliamentary press, proceedings in the Chamber of Deputies and Internet sources in the form of news about political events. I also...
