The theoretical part provides basic information about the condition and by having used specialized foreign literature it also focuses on the opportunities and goals of occupational therapy in patients with Huntington's disease. In the practical part, questionnaires which were distributed among patients and patient care providers were evaluated. Results of the questionnaires provide besides other things a brief outline of patient's problematic areas. The main part of the thesis introduces potential treatment procedures which can be performed through the intervention of occupational therapy and brings a new perspective in terms of rehabilitation of the disease, since it was previously primarily viewed from a physiotherapists perspective, which is essential for the treatment of painful shoulder syndrome. The practical part contains two case studies performed on adult patients who suffered with painful shoulder syndrome, both show the course of therapy in individual patients. Occupational therapy methods were practiced on patients and are dealt with in the theoretical part of the work. The methods compliment physiotherapist intervenion and facilitate the patient's return to normal daily life. KEY WORDS: painful shoulder syndrome, shoulder joint, upper...
Training for autocatheterization in patients with spinal cord lesions from the perspective of an occupational therapist
Šestáková, Eva ; Kulhánková, Zuzana (advisor) ; Čábelková, Alžběta (referee)
This bachelor thesis deals with the rehearsal of self-catheterisation by spinal lesion patients from the occupational therapist's point of view. The manual contains information about the self- catheterisation procedure and offers instructions, methods and alternatives of compensatory aids and strategies for becoming independent in one of the ADL activities - urinary bladder emptying. The thesis is divided into a theoretical and practical part. The theoretical part clearly explains the problems of tetraplegia and the level of disability and analyses the effects of spinal injury to urinary bladder functioning. The practical part is concerned with the benefits of the Self-catheterisation Rehearsal by Spinal Lesion Patients from the Occupational Therapist's Point of View manual which were examined through a qualitative research. Two case studies including a detailed medical history, the course of therapies and therapy evaluation were created through this research method. The Self-catheterisation Rehearsal by Spinal Lesion Patients from the Occupational Therapist's Point of View manual is to be found in the practical part of this...
