Abstract: Basing on the biographies of 100 Czech scientists who achieved eminent recognition for their scientific activities either before or during their exile, we analyze those cases where a decision had been made between pursuing career in science or in music in favour of the former one and music only remained their hobby. A decisive majority of these scientists worked in the field of exact sciences.
