The primary focus of this master´s thesis is a general analysis of Ilja Hurník´s piano works: both his concert piano pieces and his progressive piano works. Pieces are firstly sectioned according to use (concert, progressive, etc.) and then listed by chronological order. This thesis partly concentrates on four-hands piano works, including progressive four hand piano pieces as well as the concert ones. Every piece is analysed formally and their character is described; the tonality plan and thematic work is also mentioned. However, due to the prolific nature of the composer, there is unfortunately not enough space for detailed harmonic analysis of all his piano works. Finally, a brief resume of Hurník´s another comsopisitions and his literature works is presented. This thesis may be useful for performers and teachers as a survey of the available piano literature of one of the most important contemporary Czech composers.
