Práce se zabývá vznikem prvních škol na území dnešního Lucemburska, Belgie, Německa a Francie po rozpadu římské říše. Popisuje jednotlivé typy škol a výuku, kterou poskytovaly. Všímá si rovněž historických souvislostí a uvádí charakteristiku klíčových osobností dané doby a jejich vliv na vzdělávání. Zvláštní pozornost věnuje zániku antických škol po vpádu barbarských kmenů, dále karolinské renesanci a jejím důsledkům pro vzdělávání. Z klášterních škol vyzdvihuje zejména školu v opatství Echternach, jejíž vynikající úroveň z ní činí jednu z nejdůležitějších škol té doby v Evropě. Podrobně popisuje obsah výuky, učební pomůcky a vyučovací metody používané v této škole. Posléze práce zmiňuje otonskou renesanci a vznik prvních středověkých univerzit. The thesis deals with the beginning of the first schools on the territory of Luxembourg, Belgium, Germany and France after the desintegration of the Roman Empire. It describes different types of schools and the education that they were bringing. It focuses also on the historical conditions and describes the main personalities of the period and their influence on the education. It pays a special attention to the extinction of ancient schools after the invasion of barbarian tribes and to the Carolingian Renaissance and its impact on the education. Among monastic schools it points out especially the school in the Echternach abbey, whose high level makes it one of the most important schools of that period in Europe. The thesis describes in detail the content of the education, teaching aids and methods used in this school. Finally the thesis mentions the Ottonian Renaissance and the establishment of medieval universities.
