Abstract: The aim of this thesis is to evaluate current knowledge of predation in aquatic insects in the light of optimal foraging theory and switching. I explain these two phenomena and discuss how they can be connected to explain frequency-dependent prey selection. The review is complemmented by laboratory experiments on the effect of experience on frequency-dependent food selectivity of larvae of dragonflies (Odonata).
