Tato práce se věnuje pojmu paideia a chápe jej v širším slova smyslu jako kulturu, jejíž snahou bylo formování lidského charakteru v průběhu staletí. Jde o dynamický proces, jehož cílem je realizace ideálu člověka. Autor v této souvislosti sleduje řeckou kulturu směřující k ideálu člověka hlavně v pojetí sokratovském a kulturu hebrejskou tak, jak je reflektována především na stránkách Bible. Snaží se poukázat, že tyto dvě kultury mají i přes značné odlišnosti společné body. Definování těchto společných bodů je v závěrečné části práce východiskem pro obecnější úvahy směřující k dnešnímu procesu výchovy. The subject of this thesis is the concept of paideia in its broader sense of meaning {--} as a culture. The ambition of paideia as understood as a culture is to form man{\crq}s character through the centuries. It is a dynamic process that seeks to bring man to what he should ideally be. The author describes Greek culture as aiming toward an ideal of man applying Socrates approach and Hebrew culture which is mainly reflected in the Bible. It tries to point out that both of these cultures, in spite of all the differences, have several points in common. The definition of these mutual aspects in the final part of the thesis is a starting point for more general reflection about the up to date process of upbringing.
