Tato diplomová práce pojednává o tanci jako o důležitém fenoménu balijské kultury. Na taneční projev je nahlíženo z nejrůznějších úhlů - z pohledu historického vývoje, ve kterém jsou popsány důležité vývojové etapy v balijských dějinách - předhinduistické období, hindu-javánské období a královské dvory, drobná knížectví, příchod Holanďanů a 20. století. Další kapitola se zabývá podobou balijského hinduismu a některými jeho filozofickými myšlenkami promítajícími se v tanci. Dále se práce věnuje popisu chrámového systému, prostoru pro tanec, duchovní přípravou tanečníků, obřadem v chrámu, společenskou organizací banjar a tanečním školstvím, balijským pojetím času a v neposlední řadě i funkcí a významem tance v dnešní společnosti. This master thesis discusses dance as an important phenomenon of Balinese culture. The expression of dance is analyzed from different perspectives ? from the view of the important phases of development in Balinese history - the prehindu epoch, the hindu-javanese epoch and royal courts, the small principalities with the arrival of the Dutch, and the 20th century. The next chapter depicts the specific form of Hinduism found in Bali and some of its philosophical ideas as portrayed in dance. The following chapter illustrates the temple system, the place for dance, the spiritual preparation of the dancers, the structure of ceremony, the social organization banjar and the dance school system. The last theme discussed is the function and meaning of contemporary dance within Balinese society.
