Diplomová práce se zabývá postavením Islandu ve světové ekonomice v souvislosti s finanční krizí, která silně zasáhla islandské hospodářství v roce 2008. V úvodu práce je popsána teorie finančních krizí s důrazem na systemický model. Druhá část práce je věnována samotné islandské finační krizi a popisuje zde její příčiny a průběh. Třetí část se zabývá důsledky a dopady krize na islandskou ekonomiku a konkrétně zde popisuje stabilizační opatření vlády, finanční pomoc od Mezinárodního měnového fondu, potenciální vstup Islandu do Evropské unie a nevyřešenou kauzu Icesave mezi Islandem, Velkou Británií a Nizozemskem. V závěru práce je islandská ekonomika komparována s irskou ekonomikou ve snaze porovnat dvě ekonomiky v průběhu finanční krize a najít jejich společné charakteristiky. The dissertation considers the situation of Iceland in the global economic system in context of worldwide financial crisis that affected their economy in 2008. The beginning of the thesis describes the theory of financial crises "by emphasis on the systemic model". The second part of the diploma concerns the Icelandic financial crisis and its cause and behaviour. The third section is about the effect and impact to Icelandic economy and describes stabilization measures of the government, financial help from International Monetary Fund, potential entry into the European Union and Icesave affair between Iceland, Great Britain and the Netherlands. In conclusion the Icelandic economy is compared with Irish economy during financial crisis.
