Životní úroveň obyvatel mnoha států afrického kontinentu je v porovnání s evropským standardem více než podprůměrná. Jedním z hlavních úkolů Organizace spojených národů je vytváření a udržování míru v mezinárodním společenství, a toho se snaží docílit nejrůznějšími prostředky. V případě subsaharské Afriky, a tedy i Somálska, uplatňuje OSN vliv pomocí tzv. "mírových misí" a nepřímo i pomocí odborných organizací OSN. Snahou této bakalářské práce je zhodnotit roli OSN a jejích odborných organizací při řešení konfliktu a jeho dopadů na životní úroveň populace Somálska, která z důvodu občanské války již trvající déle než dvě desetiletí, trpí podvýživou, dehydratací a smrtelnými nemocemi. Vysoká negramotnost zároveň značně snižuje perspektivu získání lépe placené práce, a tudíž schopnosti zajistit si živobytí. OSN se snaží vzniklou situaci řešit mimo jiné z důvodů bezpečnostních. Zajištěním primárních lidských potřeb přispěje k sociálnímu smíru, a tím se sníží kriminalita, která může být potenciální hrozbou pro mezinárodní společenství. The level of living in many states in Africa is below-average, when compared to the European standard. One of the main challenges of the UN is peacemaking and peacekeeping in an international community. The UN tries to reach the point by using various means. In case of Sub-Saharan Africa, therefore Somalia too, exerts the UN an influence by force of peacekeeping missions and indirectly by means of specialized agencies of the UN. The aspiration of this bachelor thesis is to assess the effects of the UN and the specialized agencies of the UN on the conflict solution and on the level of living of the people living in Somalia. Somalis suffer from malnutrition, dehydration and mortal diseases by reason of a civil war that has lasted for more than two decades. High rate of illiteracy also reduces prospects for well-paid job and thus the ability to make livelihood. The UN tries to handle the situation inter alia by security reasons. By ensuring primary human needs would be created social harmony and reduced crime that could be a potential threat to the international community.
