Pohlavní výběr představuje jednu z nejvýznamnějších evolučních sil, jež formuje reprodukční chování a morfologii mnoha živočišných druhů. Ačkoliv byl původně považován za proces probíhající pouze před kopulací, bylo prokázáno, že pokračuje i po ní. Samice mohou aktivně ovlivňovat využití spermií různých samců a tím i otcovství svých potomků. Tento mechanismus ovlivňující úspěch oplození jednotlivých samců se označuje jako kryptický výběr partnera. Vědecké výzkumy se jím zabývají napříč širokým spektrem různých živočišných skupin, včetně hmyzu, ryb, plazů, obojživelníků a savců. Tato bakalářská práce se zaměřuje na vysvětlení jednotlivých mechanismů kryptického výběru partnera u ptáků, které jsou rozděleny do čtyř základních kategorií: morfo-anatomické, fyzikálně-chemické, genetické a behaviorální. Rozšířená diskuze je věnována například funkci tubulů pro ukládání spermií (SSTs), proteinovému složení samičí kloakální tekutiny či významu genetické komplementarity mezi partnery. Shrnutí empirických studií potvrzuje, že kryptický výběr partnera je významný a komplexní proces ovlivňující nejen reprodukční úspěch jednotlivců, ale také přispívá k pochopení populační dynamiky a evoluce rozmnožovacích strategií u ptáků. Sexual selection represents one of the most important evolutionary forces shaping the reproductive behavior and morphology of many animal species. Although originally considered a proces occuring only before copulation, it has been shown to continue afterward. Females can actively influence the sperm utilization from different males and thus determine the paternity of their offspring. This mechanism affecting the fertilization success of individual males is referred to as cryptic female choice. Scientific research has focused on this phenomenon across a wide range of animal groups, including insects, fish, reptiles, amphibians and mammals. This bachelor's thesis focuses on explaining the various mechanisms of cryptic female choice in birds, which are divided into four main categories: morpho-anatomical, physico-chemical, genetic and behavioral. Extended discussion is devoted to, for example, the function of sperm storage tubules (SSTs), the protein composition of female cloacal fluid, or the importance of genetic complementarity between partners.
