Heat shock proteins (HSPs) were first discovered in the heat shock response, but the accumulated evidence indicates that these proteins are involved in diverse processes. This thesis reviews plant HSP families and outlines their role in plant defence. The experimental part consists of three separate sections. The first part is a bioinformatics analysis and provides new insight into the putative role of HSP70s in Plasmodiophora brassicae infection. The second set of experiments is providing the evidence of an accumulation of P. brassicae HSP70s during the clubroot disease progression, which is accompanied by a significant depletion of most of the host's HSP70s. The last part of this work describes the experiment design and preliminary results of cloning and recombinant expression of selected P. brassicae HSP70. Proteiny teplotního šoku (HSP) byly poprvé objeveny v reakci na teplotní šok, ale nashromážděné důkazy naznačují, že tyto proteiny jsou zapojeny i do různých dalších procesů. Tato práce posuzuje rodiny rostlinných HSP a nastiňuje jejich roli v obraně rostlin. Experimentální část se skládá ze tří samostatných sekcí. První část je bioinformatická analýza, která poskytuje nový pohled na předpokládanou roli HSP70 při infekci Plasmodiophora brassicae. Druhá sada experimentů poskytuje důkaz o akumulaci HSP70 P. brassicae během progrese nádorovitosti kořene, což je doprovázeno významnou deplecí většiny hostitelských HSP70. Poslední část práce popisuje experimentální návrh a předběžné výsledky klonování a rekombinantní exprese vybraného HSP70 z P. brassicae.
