This diploma thesis focuses on the use of audiovisual documents in teaching French as a foreign language. The aim of this thesis is to describe the ways and methods of the employment of audiovisual documents in contemporary teaching focusing on the selected range of textbooks. In the first part, the thesis resumes the development of teaching methodology putting emphasis on the methods using the audiovisual documents and the role of this teaching materials defined by the CEFRL and in its Companion Volume published in 2018. The thesis also deals with the question of planning the didactical unit including an audiovisual document and resumes its stages which lead to the development of all language skills. The second part of the thesis analyses the use of the audiovisual documents in the textbooks for children, teenagers and adults. The analysed textbooks cover all language levels existing for the target group. The analysis focuses on types and methods of the employment of the audiovisual documents. These methods, proposed in the textbooks or other additional materials, are compared to the theoretical recommendations summarized in the first part of the thesis.
