Použití nanovlákenných separátorů pro Li-ion akumulátory s sebou přináší řadu výhod. Oproti dnes používaným typům mají nanovlákenné separátory vyšší teplotní odolnost, vyšší iontovou vodivost a zvýšenou schopnost zvlhčení. Právě zvýšená vodivost je u nanovlákenných separátorů zajištěna díky pórovité struktuře a velké povrchové ploše kdy vlákna mohou působit jako účinné kanály pro vedení iontů. Amorfní charakter nanovláken umožňuje rychlý pohyb lithiových iontů skrze polymerní síť separátoru a dále poskytuje vyšší volný objem elektrolytu při vyšší teplotě. Další výhodou nanovlákenných separátorů vyrobených metodou elektrospiningu je vysoká pórovitost, dobrá chemická odolnost a vysoká teplotní stálost.
Nanofibrous separators use in lithium-ion batteries brings many advantages. In contrast to contemporary used commercial separators, nanofibrous ones exhibit higher temperature resistance, ionic conductivity and higher electrolyte uptake. Better ionic conductivity is ensured by porous structure and large specific surface. Fibers creates channels for the ionic species motion. Amorphous texture of nanofibers allows quick lithium ionic species motion within the polymeric matrix of separator. Furthermore, these separators exhibit higher volume of uptaken electrolyte. Further advantage of electrospinned nanofibrous separators are both high porosity and chemical stability.
