Práce se zabývá tématem ženské obřízky z hlediska kultur, které ji užívají. První kapitola je věnována obecným informacím jako je vymezení pojmu, typologie, zdravot-ní následky, sexuální vnímavost ženy po zákroku a rozšíření této praktiky ve světě. Druhá kapitola popisuje různé důvody pro vykonávání této praktiky vycházející z uspořádání sociálního života, mýtů a představ. První část druhé kapitoly uvádí různé spekulativní varianty vzniku ženské obřízky, poslední je věnována tématu spojení FGC a náboženství. Třetí kapitola nastiňuje současné debaty a otázku zasahování do prakti-kování ženské obřízky, tedy snahu o její vymýcení. The work deals with topic of female circumcision from aspect of cultures using it. The first chapter is concerned with general information such as definition of the term, typology, health consequences, sexual sensibility of women after the operation and prevalence of this practics in the world. The second chapter describes various reasons for performing of female genital cutting that come from setting of social life, myths and conceptions. The first part of the second chapter introduces different speculative vari-ants of origin of female circumcision, the last part is about connection between FGC and religion. The third section foreshadows current debates and question of interference with practising of female circumcision, thus effort to eradicate it.
