Počátek roku 2009 přinesl na český kapitálový trh novinku v podobě transformace Rm-systému, a.s. známého jako organizátora mimoburzovního trhu na organizátora trhu burzovního. S touto změnou vyvstala na povrch otázka, zdali má význam mít dvě burzy v tak malé zemi jako je Česká republika. Stěžejním cílem této diplomové práce je porovnat burzy v České republice, tedy Burzu cenných papírů Praha a burzu Rm-systém. Dále jsem vybrala Newyorskou burzu a Londýnskou burzu, dvě z nejvýznamnějších světových zahraničních burz, které mají dlouhou tradici a jsou tak bohaté na historické události. I díky regionálnímu aspektu, který je jednou z možností kategorizace burz, jsem zvolila právě tyto dvě burzy, protože se domnívám, že by mohly být relevantním zdrojem odlišností a mohly tak poskytnout zajímavý pohled při srovnání s burzami českými, které jsou relativně mladé. První, teoretická, část se zabývá světovou historií burzovnictví a jeho vývojem, na který plynule navázuje historie výše zmíněných burz. Krom toho se chci v první části věnuji charakteristice burz, dále jejich členění podle jednotlivých kritérií, fungování a obchodování, které je zajišťováno pomocí nejrůznějších druhů obchodních systémů a vymezováno zákony. Druhá část je věnována, v rámci rozsahu zadání diplomové práce, jednotlivým burzám a detailnějšímu popisu účastníků obchodujících na burzách, organizaci burz, systémům obchodování a burzovním informacím, za které jsou považovány především burzami sestavované indexy. V praktické části jsou taktéž popisovány předměty obchodování, tedy s čím je možno na dané burze obchodovat, druhy obchodů, které je možné realizovat na vybraných burzách a jejich vypořádání. Po podrobném popisu těchto čtyř burz následuje část nejvýznamnější, a to analýza odlišností a zjištění výhod či nevýhod daných burz a jejich popis. V závěru diplomové práce uvádím výsledky a poznatky, které přineslo porovnávání a je zodpovězena otázka, jestli má smysl mít v České republice dvě burzy. This thesis compares various attributes of the two stock exchanges that are currently in existence in the Czech Republic: the Rm-system Czech Stock Exchange and the Prague Stock Exchange. Detailed comparisons are made between various specifics of membership policies, trading routines, fees and indices at these exchanges and these are then related to the corresponding attributes at two representative foreign exchanges: the London Stock Exchange and the New York Stock Exchange. A principal question to be answered in the thesis is whether having two independent organizers of stock-market trading is beneficial to the investors and overall practical for the market of the size of the Czech Republic. The first, theoretical part of the thesis is focused on historical evolution and characteristics of the stock exchanges. In this part we give a general classification of stock exchanges, discuss in some detail the kinds of traded financial instruments, describe trading participants and elucidate the nitty-gritty of trading systems. The second, practical part of the thesis then examines detailed facts about individual stock exchanges in the order listed in the theoretical part with the emphasis put on the differences between the stock markets under study. Various representative data is collected in tables and/or recorded in charts and graphs. Particular distinctions between the stock exchanges are analyzed and the distinguished aspects are highlighted. The conclusion summarizes obtained results and finally answers, in the mild affirmative, the question whether it is beneficial to have the stock market in the Czech Republic served by two independent stock exchanges.
