Postkopulační pohlavní výběr, tedy kompetice spermií a skrytá samičí volba, byl dlouho neznámou či opomíjenou složkou pohlavního výběru. Přitom ale u pohlavně promiskuitních organismů může hrát zásadní roli při výběru partnera. Kompetice spermií vytváří silný selekční tlak na fenotyp spermie, ale detailní vnitrodruhové studie, které by studovaly vztah mezi fenotypem spermie a fertilizačním úspěchem samců jsou dosud poměrně vzácné. Navíc by selekce by mohla působit jinak u živočichů s vnějším oplozením (kde je role samice při ovlivnění výsledku kompetice spermií limitována) a vnitřním oplozením (kde ke kompetici spermií dochází v samičím reprodukčním traktu a uplatnit se může i skrytá samičí volba) a mohly by zde být preferovány jiné vlastnosti spermií. Tato práce formou rešerše shrnuje znalosti o znacích spermií, které ovlivňují fertilizační úspěch samců u promiskuitních organismů, a zaměřuje se na rozdíly v selekci znaků spermií u živočichů s vnitřním a vnějším oplozením. Za účelem objasnění této problematiky práce nejprve stručně shrnuje základní poznatky o morfologické variabilitě spermií obratlovců. Věnuje se fenotypu spermií a vlastnostem, které ovlivňují úspěšnost spermií, ale i obecnějším znakům souvisejícím s fertilitou samců, jako je kvantita spermií či podíl morfologicky abnormálních... Postcopulatory sexual selection, which encompasses sperm competition and cryptic female choice, has long been an understudied or neglected component of sexual selection. However, in sexually promiscuous organisms, it can play a crucial role in mate choice. Sperm competition exerts strong selective pressure on sperm phenotypes, yet detailed intraspecific studies investigating the relationship between sperm phenotype and male fertilization success remain relatively scarce. Furthermore, selection may operate differently in organisms with external fertilization (where the female's role in influencing sperm competition outcomes is limited) versus internal fertilization (where sperm competition occurs within the female reproductive tract, and cryptic female choice can also come into play), potentially favoring different sperm characteristics. This thesis, based on research synthesis, summarizes the knowledge about sperm traits that influence male fertilization success in promiscuous organisms, with a focus on differences in sperm trait selection in organisms with internal and external fertilization.
