Abstract: The objective of the bachelor's thesis is to introduce the basic notation in mechanics of continuum. Key concepts are deformation mappings, strains in materials, density models in elasticity, and the corresponding energy functional. Practical examples of various mappings are presented with elaborate computations and visualizations. Some Matlab codes used to illustrate the examples are listed.
