Abstract: Phylogenetic relationships of trematodes of the family Heterophyidae were examined using sequences of complete ITS2 and partial (D1-D3 region) LSU rDNA. The results indicate possible paraphyly of the family Heterophyidae because two heterophyid species, Psedexorchis major and Cryptocotyle lingua, appeared among families Cryptogonimidea nad Opisthorchiidae. The genus Ascocotyle apears paraphyletic because Pygidiopis macrostoma forms a sister clade with members of the subgenus Ascocotyle. Molacular data indicate necessity of some taxonomic changes but are in general congruence with the current clasification of the superfamily opisthorchioidea.
