Bakalářská práce se zabývá srovnáním populačního a hospodářského vývoje Kalifornie a Illinois v rozmezí let 1980 až 2010. Jejím hlavním cílem je nalézt trendy, rozdíly nebo shody ve vývoji obou států a Státních ekonomických oblastí, do nichž náležejí, tj. oblasti Pacifické a Střední Severovýchod. Pro analýzu populačního a hospodářského vývoje jsou využita oficiální statistická data. Populační vývoj je sledován z hlediska počtu obyvatel, rasového a etnického složení a migrace. Hospodářský vývoj je hodnocen na základě vývoje hrubého domácího produktu a vybraných ukazatelů vztahujících se k obyvatelstvu a jeho životní úrovni. Výsledky ukazují, že populace Kalifornie roste, přičemž její etnicko- rasová struktura se mění, zatímco populace Illinois vykazuje pouze mírný růst až stagnaci. Oba státy procházejí ekonomickým růstem, který byl však v posledních letech narušen finanční a hospodářskou krizí. Ze srovnání populačního a hospodářského vývoje zkoumaných oblastí vyplývá, že rozdíly v jejich vývoji odpovídají rozdílům ve vývoji států. Klíčová slova: srovnávání, vývoj obyvatelstva a ekonomiky, hlavní trendy a rozdíly, Kalifornie, Illinois, Pacifická oblast, Střední Severovýchod, 1980-2010 The thesis is focused on the comparison of the population and economic development in California and Illinois between 1980 and 2010. The main purpose is to discover the major trends, differences or agreements in the development of both of these states and State Economic Areas they belong to, i.e. Pacific and East North Central. The official statistics were used for the analysis. Population development is examined by the number of residents, race and ethnicity and migration. Economic development is studied by the gross domestic product and selected characteristics related to the population and its standard of living. Results demonstrate that the population of California is growing and its racial and ethnic composition is changing whereas the population of Illinois is stagnating or growing moderately. Both states undergo the economic growth, which was however interrupted by the financial and economic crisis in recent years. Results of the comparison of the development of Pacific and East North Central indicate that the differences between divisions correspond to the differences between states.
