Tělocvičná jednota Sokol Polná patřila mezi nejstarší spolky s nejaktivnější členskou základnou největší a nejdéle fungující které působily v tomto městě. Sokol v Polné prošel za dobu více než 80 let svého trvání (byť s pauzou 17 let) mnoha vývojovými etapami a peripetiemi. První období polenského Sokola, které lze vymezit léty 1868-1876, bylo obrazně řečeno dobou "zkoušek a zrání". Vzpomeňme na snahy Gustava Feltla, Ondřeje Sedláka, Engelberta Ambrože, Antonína Arelta a dalších vlastenecky zaměřených představitelů inteligence, kteří se snažili založit v Polné tělocvičnou jednotu Sokol již v roce 1866. Jejich snažení bylo úspěšně završeno až o tři roky později. Podle vzpomínek pamětníků, o které se opíral Břetislav Rérych, když ve 20. letech 20. století psal dějiny spolku do sokolské kroniky, byl Sokol v Polné ustaven již v roce 1868. Pracoval však bez schválených stanov. K jejich úřednímu schválení došlo až dne 16. srpna 1869 a poté rozvinula jednota svou činnost na zákonném podkladě. I když bylo působení této "první" sokolské jednoty v Polné velmi krátké, šlo o pouhých osm let, mělo svůj význam. Spolu se vznikem tohoto spolku došlo ve městě jednoznačně k oživení veřejného života. Členové Sokola nikdy nechyběli při oslavách, veřejných vystoupeních a na demonstrativních shromážděních na podporu nacionálních... This paper, entitled "A Contribution to the History of the Sokol Movement in the Ceskomoravska Highlands. The Sokol Union in Polna in 1869-1953", describes the history of this association ('Tělocvičná jednota Sokol Polná' in Czech) whose activities often influenced the local historical course of events. The paper is divided into three main chapters. The first chapter gives a general overview of the Sokol movement. The first two parts contain a brief analysis of the circumstances of the foundation of the Sokol movement, the establishment of the COS (the national administration of the Sokol movement) and the subsequent development of the Sokol movement in the Czech lands. The following part briefly explains the history of organisation of the COS, including the establishment of its local and regional bodies, up to the 1950's when the COS ceased to exist. The key events affecting the COS eventually had an impact on all its associations, including TJ Sokol Polna. The next part gives a brief history of the Sokolska zupa Havlickova, the regional association which also included TJ Sokol Polna in 1894-1948. The second chapter as the fundamental component of this work contains, in five parts, the history of the Sokol Union in Polna. The first part is dedicated to "Sokol Polna", established in 1869.
