Tato práce se zabývá porovnáním katolického a marxistického pohledu na soukromé vlastnictví vyjádřených v dílech Rerum novarum a Manifestu komunistické strany. Situace nejnižší vrstvy společnosti se v průběhu 19. století zhoršila natolik, že se velká část její populace ocitla v existenční krizi. Kontinuálně klesající mzda, špatné pracovní podmínky, neexistence sociálního zabezpečení a vysoká míra nezaměstnanosti byly charakteristické rysy 19. století. S nástupem strojní výroby se navíc do pracovního procesu začaly zapojovat i ženy s dětmi, které tak ještě více zvětšovaly konkurenci na trhu práce. Řešení prosazované Karlem Marxem v Manifestu komunistické strany bylo založeno na zrušení soukromého vlastnictví a alokaci majetku pod kolektivní správou. Katolická církev naproti tomu trvala na zachování soukromého vlastnictví a zdůrazňovala solidaritu mezi jednotlivými vrstvami společnosti. Reakcí církve na stav nejnižší vrstvy a rostoucí vliv komunistického hnutí v Evropě bylo vydání první sociální encykliky Rerum novarum. Práce se přes popis historického pozadí a pojetí majetku dostává ke srovnání pohledů jednotlivých aktérů. Ve zbylých částech práce je podrobněji rozebráno hledisko katolické církve a následně provedena diskuze nad efektivitou a aplikací příslušných východisek katolické církve a Karla Marxe. The bachelor thesis compares the Catholic and Marxist understanding of private property as expressed in Rerum Novarum and the Manifesto of the Communist Party. The situation of the lowest class had demeaned during the 19th century to such a level that a large part of society had to face an existential crisis. A continually decreasing wage, alarming working conditions, the non-existence of social security and a high unemployment rate were characteristic for the 19th century. With the rise of mechanical production women and children started playing an active part in the working process, thus escalating the competition on the labour market. Karl Marx's solution written down in the Manifesto was based on abolishing private property and allocating it under collective keeping. On the contrary, the Catholic Church insisted on maintaining private property and emphasized solidarity among social classes. The Church's reaction to the condition of the lowest class and the growing support of communism in Europe was formulated in the first social encyclical Rerum Novarum.
