Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá tlumočnickými a překladatelskými službami ve strukturách Evropské unie. Jejím cílem je představit tyto služby v rámci jednotlivých evropských institucí, popsat jejich organizaci, fungování a poukázat na význam jejich úlohy. Práce nejprve popisuje jazykovou situaci v Evropské unii a jejích členských státech a zdůrazňuje význam politiky mnohojazyčnosti a jazykové a kulturní rozmanitosti pro fungování EU. Hlavní část práce se věnuje jednotlivým překladatelským a tlumočnickým servisům a charakteristice jejich činností, včetně popisu pracovních technik či pomocných překladatelských nástrojů. Závěrečná část se zaměřuje na postavení České republiky v rámci těchto služeb a stručně popisuje aktivity v oblasti překladu a stanovení oficiální české terminologie v souvislosti s jejím vstupem do EU. This thesis is focused on the interpreting and translation servises in the European Union. Its objective is to introduce these services within the individual European institutions, to describe their organisation and activities as well as to emphasize the significant role they play. The first part of the thesis describes the language situation in the European Union and its Member States as well as points out the importance of linguistic and cultural diversity and of a multilingual policy for the work of the EU. The main part deals with the individual translation and interpreting services. It describes their particular activities, their working methods and the respective translation tools. The final part of the thesis comments on the position of the Czech Republic within these services and gives a brief description of its activities in the field of translation and determination of the official terminology in connection with its accession to the EU.
