Diplomová práce se zabývá problematikou reprezentace zvířat v českých cestopisech o subsaharské Africe konce 19. a 20. století. Zvláštní důraz je kladen na reprezentaci různých způsobů lovu zvířat a na významy, které tyto způsoby lovu měly pro dobové aktéry. Téma je kontextu kolonizace a "dobývání" africké přírody Evropany a přivlastňování procesem reprezentace. Důraz je kladen také na reprezentaci indigenních kontextu vyjednávání jejich práva na využívání africké přírody a lov zvířat. Toto vyjednávání probíhalo mj. skrze poukazování na přírodno přirovnání ke zvířatům. Čeští autoři v pozice občanů evropského státu bez vlastních formálních kolonií. K specifické pozice práce využívá metod post analýze reprezentací zvířat je dále využíváno metod interdisciplinárního oboru těchto reprezentací k Klíčová slova České cestopisy, reprezentace zvířat, kolonialismus, Afrika, africká příroda The diploma thesis deals with the issue of animal representation in Czech travelogues about sub-Saharan Africa at the end of the 19th and 20th centuries. Special emphasis is placed on the representation of different ways of hunting and on the meanings that these ways of hunting had for contemporary actors. The theme is placed in the context of the colonization and "conquest" of African nature by Europeans and its symbolic appropriation through the process of representation. The emphasis is also placed on the representation of indigenous people in the context of negotiation of their rights to appropriate African nature and to hunt animals. This negotiation took place e.g. in pointing out the primitive nature of the indigenous inhabitants and their comparison to animals. Czech authors describe their participation in the colonial system from their specific position of citizens of a European state without its formal colonies. The thesis uses the methods of postcolonial studies in order to reflect their specific position. The methods of the interdisciplinary field of animal studies are used for the analysis of animal representations.
