Abstract: A remarkable progress in the LPWAN (Low PowerWide Area Network) technologies overthe recent years opens new opportunities for developing versatile massive IoT (Internet of Things)applications. In this paper, we focus on one of the most popular LPWAN solutions operating in thelicense-exempt frequency bands, named LoRaWAN (Long Range Wide Area Network). The keycontribution of this work is the implementation of the LoRaWAN technology within the NetworkSimulator 3. The collected simulation results reveal the expected spectrum utilization within theunlicensed band as well as show the transmission success rate for different communication distancesbetween end-devices and LoRaWAN gateways.
