Auto-negotiation is the capability of the interface to automatically determine the linkabilities, like link speed and the FEC ability, according to information sent by the link partner. Thisarticle addresses the design of auto-negotiation component working on Xilinx Virtex UltraScale+FPGAs using GTY transceivers. Main guidelines were taken from the Clause 73 IEEE 802.3 standardfor Ethernet interfaces. This design focuses on the interface with single line running at 25 Gbps usingoptical cable as medium. The special description is provided considering design changes on FPGAagainst the IEEE standard.
