Abstract: In linear voltammetry of dilute aqueous chloroauric acid with hanging mercury drop electrode. when scanning proceeds from negative to positive potentials, a prominent maximum of cathodic current appears on the curves near 0 V. This effect is explained by catalysis of hydrogen evolution by short-lived gold nanoparticles at the electrode surface.
