[eng][cze] Forests fulfil many irreplaceable functions and becouse of that it is neccessary to manage them with all respect to sustainable management to preserve them for the future generations. Current global trend of forest coverage is decreasing. Since 2015, forest coverage descresed from 31,8 % to 30,8 %. Contrary, the forest state in the European Union and in the Czech Republic is more optimistic. Generally, the forest area coverage of EU is 38 % but this representation is slightly unbalanced. Forest management is a complicated process of planning and implementing forest activities, necessary to perform it in sustainable way. Sustainable management is in this diploma thesis evaluated through the system of criteria and indicators estabilished by cooperation of various organisations. It has been set a list of six criteria and its defining indicators. In Europe, this list was adopted in 1998 at the third Ministerial Conference on the Protection of Forests in Europe. Thesis focuses mainly on describing the state of the Czech forests and its development through the last decade, since 2007 to 2016. According to avaible information is realized an assessment of forest area development, ownership structure, forest regeneration, forest categories, growing stock volume, tree species composition and an assessment of certified forest area. Based on processed evaluation is implemented a SWOT analysis appraising main strong and weak aspects and opportunities and possible threats of the Czech forestry.Lesy jsou nedílnou součástí krajiny již od nepaměti a naplňují mnoho nenahraditelných funkcí. Proto je nezbytné je obhospodařovat v souladu s principy udržitelného lesnictví a zajistit jejich funkce pro budoucí generace. Bohužel, v současné době je trend lesního pokryvu mírně klesající. Od roku 2015 dochází průběžně k poklesu zastoupení světových lesů z původních 31,8 % na nynějších 30,8 %. Naopak, stav lesů v členských zemích Evropské Unie a České republice je více optimističtější. Celková plocha lesa tvoří v rámci EU celých 38 %, avšak procentuální zastoupení jednotlivých zemí je mírně nevyrovnané. Lesnický management a obhospodařování lesa je komplikovaný proces plánování a realizace lesnických postupů. V rámci udržitelného lesnického managementu je nutné tyto zásahy provádět s rozvahou. Udržitelné lesnické hospodaření je v rámci diplomové práce hodnoceno pomocí systému kritérií a indikátorů, vyvinutých ve spolupráci světových organizací. Byl vypracován seznam celkem šesti kritérií a jejich indikátorů. V Evropě byl tento seznam přijat v roce 1998, v rámci 3. Ministerské konference o ochraně lesů v Evropě. Práce se zaměřuje následně na popsání aktuálního stavu lesů a lesnictví v České republice a jeho dlouhodobější vývoj v rámci poslední dekády, od roku 2007 do roku 2016. Na základě získaných informací je vypracovaná tato diplomová práce. Jedním z hlavních výstupů je SWOT analýza českého lesnictví. V rámci této analýzy jsou stanoveny a zhodnoceny vnitřní a vnější faktory ovlivňující české lesnictví.
