Práce se bude zabývat interpretací populárních fantasy příběhů současného amerického spisovatele Christophera Paoliniho, konkrétně jeho tetralogií Odkaz Dračích jezdců (Inheritance Cycle). Teoretickým východiskem bude přiblížení anglické a americké dobrodružné fantasy literatury a jejího mytologického pozadí. Zvláštní pozornost bude věnována vlivu J.R.R. Tolkiena, jehož dílo je pro Paoliniho významnou inspirací. Samostatná kapitola bude věnována životu a tvorbě Ch. Paoliniho. V dalších kapitolách bude hlavní pozornost zaměřena na typologii postav, jejich funkci a charakteristiku, dále pak na úlohu prostředí a interpretaci hlavních motivů. Součástí práce bude i zamyšlení nad etickým významem Paoliniho příběhů v kontextu dětské literatury. The thesis deals with the interpretation of popular fantasy stories of the contemporary American writer Christopher Paolini, in particular, with his tetralogy called The Inheritance Cycle. The theoretical aim is the analysis of Anglo-American adventurous fantasy literature and its mythological background. Special attention is dedicated to the influence of J.R.R. Tolkien, whose lifework inspired Paolini. A single chapter describes life and work of Ch. Paolini. In the following chapters we can find the typology of the main characters, their function and characteristics, the role of the environment and the interpretation of the main motifs. The last chapter includes hypotheses about the ethical message for the young readers in the context of children literature
