The aim of this diploma thesis is to analyze and compare outstanding Anglo-American dystopias. The main attributes of dystopias, use of power, propaganda, censorship, and economic repercussions are described, as well as the hero's attitude towards society. This thesis analyses Golding's Lord of the Flies, Orwell's Animal Farm and 1984, Bradbury's Fahrenheit 451, Huxley's Brave New World and London's The Iron Heel. The thesis focuses on similarities and differences in those dystopias. Cílem této diplomové práce je analýza a porovnání významných dystopických románů anglické a americké literatury. Práce popisuje hlavní znaky dystopií, užití síly, propagandu, cenzuru, ekonomická omezení a také postoj hlavního hrdiny vůči společnosti. Analýza porovnává romány Pán Much od Goldinga, Farmu zvířat a 1984 od Orwella, 451 stupňů Fahrenheita od Bradburyho, Konec civilizace: aneb Překrásný nový svět od Huxleyho a Železnou patu od Londona. Práce se zaměřuje na podobnosti a rozdílnosti v těchto dystopických románech.
