Tato práce se zabývá postavením irského jazyka jako menšinového jazyka v Severním Irsku a postojem Velké Británie k tomuto jazyku. Popisuje postavení irštiny od vzniku Severního Irska, její historii přes celé 20. století, až po její současnou situaci v rámci Severního Irska a Velké Británie. Irština je na území Severního Irska považována za menšinový jazyk. Prvního oficiálního uznání se jí dostalo až v rámci Velkopáteční dohody v roce 1998. Následovalo přijetí dalších smluv a strategií, mezi něž patří například Evropská charta pro regionální a menšinové jazyky. V bakalářské práci jsou jednotlivé smlouvy rozebrány, nastíněny dopady přijetí a zavedení těchto opatření, popsány podpůrné programy, které se snaží irštinu na tomto území posunout dál a učinit ji funkčním jazykem, a i problémy, které naopak brání v rozvoji irštiny. Dále je zde pro srovnání uvedeno postavení irštiny na území Irské republiky, kde je tento jazyka podle Ústavy prvním úředním jazykem, ale v praxi tomu stále není. This thesis deals with the development and status of the Irish language in Northern Ireland and with the support and attitude of the UK to this language. It describes the position of Irish since the birth of Northern Ireland, its history throughout the 20th century, and its current situation within the Northern Ireland and United Kingdom. Irish considered a minority language in the territory of Northern Ireland. The first official recognition Irish received in 1998 under the Good Friday Agreement. It followed the adoption of other treaties and strategies, such as the European Charter for Regional and Minority Languages. In the bachelor thesis, the individual contracts analyzed, outlined the implications of the adoption and implementation of these measures, and described support programs that try to move the Irish into this territory and make it a functional language and problems that impede the development of Irish. In addition, the status of Irish in the territory of the Republic of Ireland, where this language is the first official language according to the Constitution, is in contrast, but in practice, it is still not.
