The paper deals with the problems associated with the estimation of the magnetizing current in generator operation of induction machines. According to some experts, the magnetizing current in generator operation is considerably bigger than in motor operation and this fact must be taken into consideration while designing the magnetic circuit. It is shown that this opinion is not in many cases quite justified and thus it is not necessary to overrate the magnetic circuit and an induction machine originally designed as a motor can be used as a generator without derating. Článek se zabývá problémy spojenými s určováním velikosti magnetizačního proudu v generátorickém chodu indukčního stroje. Podle některých odborníků je magnetizační proud v generátorickém chodu podstatně větší než v motorickém chodu a tuto skutečnost je nutné brát v úvahu při návrhu magnetického obvodu. Je ukázáno, že tento názor není v mnoha případech zcela oprávněný a tudíž není nutné z tohoto důvodu magnetický obvod zbytečně předimenzovat a jako generátor lze použít indukční stroj se stejným výkonem původně navzžený jako motor.
