Abstract: The effects of extracts from 35 water macrophyte species on the growth of bloom-forming cyanobacteria were investigated to evaluate their potential use as cyanocides in an aquatic ecosystem. For almost all species, two types of extracts were prepared and their impact on the growth of Microcystis aeruginosa SAG 46.80 and Aphanizomenon gracile CCALA 008 was tested. Bioassays were performed in 96-well microplates and the growth of cyanobacteria was evaluated measuring optical density at 750 nm.
