Uvádí se krátký životopis Karla Fridricha Gausse. Jako příklad jeho velkých úspěchů se podrobně odvozuje a diskutuje Gaussův zákon rozdělení chyb. Je ukázána jeho souvislost s metodou nejmenších čtverců. Probírá se netriviální příklad regresní analýzy při zpracování experimentálních dat. Short biography of Karl Fridrich Gauss is presented. As an example of his great achievements, the Gaussian error distribution is derived and thoroughly discussed. Its connection with least-squares method is shown. A non-trivial example of fitting of experimental data is added.
