Tématem této bakalářské práce je vliv USA na vyjednávání v Severním Irsku v souvislosti s aplikací a posunem teorie konsociační demokracie. Konflikt v Severním Irsku má svoje počátky v 17. století, kdy na území Ulsteru začali přicházet protestanté ze Skotska a Anglie. Náboženské rozdíly mezi obyvatelstvem, většina původního obyvatelstva byli katolíci, vedly v průběhu staletí ke vzniku a oddělení dvou etnik na území Ulsteru - protestantů a katolíků. Po rozdělení ostrova v roce 1921, kdy jižní část ostrova vyhlásila nezávislost, zůstala oblast Severního Irska součástí Království Velké Británie a Severního Irska a konflikt mezi etniky se ještě přiostřil, protože většina katolíků chtěla sjednocení ostrova pod Irskou republikou (republikáni), ale protestanté chtěli zůstat v unii s Velkou Británií (unionisté a loajalisté). Na konci šedesátých let se konflikt změnil v násilný a útoky a zabíjení pokračovaly následujících třicet let v období nazývaném "the Troubles." Konflikt byl vyřešen až na konci 90. let 20. století za přispění vlád Irska, Spojeného království a USA. Deskriptivní část této práce popisuje konflikt v Severním Irsku, jeho kořeny a pokusy o řešení. Zvláštní důraz je kladen na roli Spojených států amerických ve vyjednávání od propuknutí "the Troubles" do uzavření Velkopáteční dohody, tedy... This thesis' topic is The United States' influence on Northern Ireland conflict resolution. The Norther Ireland conflict has its roots in the 17th century, when protestants from Scotland and England started to come to the Ulster region. Religion differences between the inhabitants, most of the original population were Catholics, led over the centuries to the division of two ethnics on the Ulster territory - protestant and catholic. After the partition of the island in 1921 the southern part declared independence, however the Northern Ireland territory remained a part of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. The conflict between ethnics sharpened itself, because most of the Catholics wanted to united the island under Irish rule (the republicans), while protestants wanted to remained in the union with the Great Britain (the unionists and the loyalists). At the end of the 1960's the conflict turned itself into a violent one and the attacks and killing continued for the next thirty years during the period called "the Troubles." The conflict was settled by the end of the 1990's with a contribution of the governments of the Republic of Ireland, the Great Britain and the US.
