V čínském hospodářství a právnictví se široce aplikoval konfucianismus. Tradiční ekonomické myšlení zdůrazňovalo společenský význam zemědělství a potlačovalo úlohu obchodu. V tradiční čínské společenské hierarchii patřila obchodníkům nejnižší příčka. Confucianism was widely applied in Chinese economy and laws. Traditional economic thought stresses the social importance of agriculture, but depreciates the role of commerce. In the hierarchy of Chinese traditional society merchants were placed at the bottom.
