Pod vlivem praxe se ukazuje, že předpoklady na chování sledovaných jakostních znaků vyžadované klasickými Shewhartovými regulačními diagramy nejsou často v praxi splňovány. Jedná se o požadavky na normalitu, jejiž parametry, tj. střední hodnota a rozptyl, se v čase nemění. Tento požadavek nebývá v praxi splněn, a proto se začaly analyzovat procesy, u nichž se mohou tyto parametry měnit v čase. Tím se zcela mění pohled na regulování tykovýchto procesů a rovnež pohled na jejich způsobilost. The assumptions about behaviour of observed quality variables demanded by classical Shewhart diagrams are not often satisfied as practice shows. These assumptions concern Gaussian density function whose parameters, i.e. mean value and dispersion must be constant in time. As this demand need not be satisfied in practice therefore processes with changing mean value or dispersion have begun to analyse. This fact is changing the statistical control and capability of such manufacture processes.
