Páni z Koldic mají kořeny v Míšeňsku, kde se nachází město a hrad Koldice (Colditz). Jejich první kontakty s Českým královstvím lze prokázat od doby vlády Václava II.. Následně, za vlády Lucemburků, se stávají jako rádci oporou panovníka. Nejprve sloužili u krále Jana, později dokonce císaře Karla IV. Poměrně často půjčovali větší částky zadluženým panovníkům. Těma st. z Koldic může být považován za prvního pána z Koldic, který se trvale usídlil v království. Král Jan Lucemburský mu udělil v léno některé državy v severozápadních Čechách (nejvýznamnější z nich byl hrad a hornické město Krupka). Jeden z jeho synů, Těma ml. z Koldic, rozmnožil majetek a podřídil i panství Koldice jako léno mladému králi Václavovi IV.(1368). Jména Koldiců na velkém množství listin českých králů dokládají, že příslušníci tohoto rodu obvykle zůstávali v jejich blízkosti. Těma st., Těma ml. a Albrecht z Koldic zastávali významné úřady, například hejtmanství v Horní Lužici a ve Vratislavi, úřad mistra komory a další více, či méně významné posty. Uplatnili se i jako duchovní, během zkoumaného období dva členové rodu zasedli na biskupský stolec v Míšni. Tato práce popisuje pouze jedno století jejich služby u dvora, což znamená, že výzkum je doveden ke konci vlády Václava IV., "česká větev" pánů z Koldic však vymírá až na... The Lords of Colditz originally came from Meissen, which is also the location of the town and castle Colditz (Koldice). Their first contact with the Kingdom of Bohemia dates to the reign of Wenceslaw II. During the rule of the Luxembourg dynasty, they became (as counsellors) one of the pillars of their sovereigns' power. At first, they served King John of Luxembourg, and then his son and Emperor - Charles IV. Besides their counselling services, Lords of Koldice often lended quite large amounts to indebted rulers. Thimo (Těma) the Elder is considered to be the first Lord of Colditz, who settled in the Kingdom of Bohemia. King John of Luxembourg gave him some goods in the northwestern part of Bohemia (the most important of them was Krupka, a mining town with a castle). One of his sons, Thimo (Těma) the Younger, enlarged the domain and eventually turned his allodial property Colditz (Koldice) into a feud (1368). Thus he became a vassal of the King Wenceslaus IV. A large number of documents show that Lords of Colditz mostly stayed around the royal court. Thimo the Elder, Thimo the Younger and Albrecht held many important offices.
