The main aim of this bachelor thesis is to point out the most common problems that the translators from English to Czech may encounter, exemplified by real solutions in the proces of translating modern fiction. This work consists of two parts. The theoretical part of is the the actual translation of one chapter of the novel The Vampire Lestat by american author Anne Rice. The theoretical part contains the stylistic analysis of the translated text and it is aimed at the probles I have encountered while translating the text. I am commenting on the technique that I have chosen on the basis of the translation theories, particularly those by Jiří Levý, Dagmar Knittlová and Zlata Kufnerová. Hlavním cílem této bakalářské práce je poukázat na nejčastější problémy, se kterými se mohou setkat překladatelé z anglického do českého jazyka, za použití reálných překladatelských řešení u převodu moderní literatury. Práce se skládá se ze dvou částí. Praktickou část tvoří vlastní překlad jedné kapitoly románu The Vampire Lestat americké autorky Anne Rice. Teoretická část obsahuje stylistickou analýzu přeloženého textu a je zaměřen na problémy, se kterými jsem se při překládání setkala. Vyjadřuji se zde k postupům, které jsem zvolila na základě překladatelských teorii, zejména těch, které napsali Jiří Levý, Dagmar Knittlová a Zlata Kufnerová.
