Výsledky některých studií svědčí o souvislosti bazální hladiny steroidního hormonu testosteronu a změn v jeho hladině s některými individuálními charakteristikami (zejména projevy dominance či agrese) a reakcemi v kontextu mezimužské kompetice. Jejich autoři tuto spojitost v souladu s evoluční teorií povětšinou interpretují jako důsledek odlišných předpokladů jedince (popř. míry jeho motivace) k dosažení vysokého statusu či výhře v soupeření. Cílem této práce bylo testování adekvátnosti měření žárlivostní reakce u adolescentních chlapců prostřednictvím změn hladiny tohoto hormonu přítomného ve slinách a zjištění souvislostí mezi bazální a průměrnou hladinou testosteronu a změnami hladin tohoto hormonu s některými individuálními charakteristikami, o nichž se badatelé v souvislosti s výsledky svých studií zmiňují. Chlapcům, kteří se naší studie zúčastnili, byly za účelem zjištění bazální hladiny testosteronu před započetím experimentu a změn jeho hladiny po vyvolání žárlivostní reakce v situaci simulující seznamování prostřednictvím internetu a po oznámení jejího výsledku v podobě prohry odebrány tři vzorky slin (mezi oběma stimuly a odběrem vzorků uplynulo vždy 15 minut). Za účelem zjištění souvislostí těchto hladin testosteronu a některých individuálních charakteristik chlapci vyplnili sadu... Past research suggests association between basal steroid hormone testosterone level and its changes with some individual characteristics (especially some behavioral manifestations of dominance and aggression) and its changes within male-male competition. This relationship is usually (in accordance with evolutionary theory) interpreted as the consequence of different individual prerequisites (or the degree of individual motivation) for high status position including winning a male- male competition. The aim of this study was to test the adequacy of measuring jealousy reaction in adolescent boys by way of changes in salivary testosterone level and finding their associations with some individual characteristics mentioned by researchers. For the purpose of measuring basal testosterone level before starting the experiment and changes in its level following the jealousy stimulus within a competition for a mate which simulated the internet mating and changes in its level after being informed of their failure in this competition, the boys who participated in our study provided three salivary samples (the samples were provided after 15 minutes after the stimuli).
