Abstract: The paper deals with the influence of discontinuities in interconnecting traces, vias, pads, connectors, parasitics of the IC packages and all other passive interconnecting elements in multi-layer printed-circuit boards (PCB) and multichip modules (MCM) on the signal integrity (SI) of complex mixed-signal electronic system. Simple models, rules and guidelines suitable for human handling are introduced.
