The aim of this thesis is an evaluation of John Steinbeck's wartime works in connection with the development of anti-war tendencies in American literature from the seventeenth century up to the first half of the twentieth century. The theme will be examined from two perspectives. Firstly, as a description of the author's personal experience and its influence on his attitude towards military conflicts. Secondly, as a complex analysis of the author's wartime works: The Moon is Down, Once There Was a War and Bombs Away. Cílem této práce je zhodnocení válečné tvorby Johna Steinbecka v souvislosti s vývojem protiválečných tendencí v americké literatuře od 17. století do první poloviny 20. století. Na téma bude poukázáno ze dvou pohledů. Nejdříve budou zkoumány autorovy osobní prožitky a jejich vliv na vývoj autorova postoje vůči válečným konfliktům. Poté bude následovat souhrnná analýza autorových děl z válečného období - Měsíc zapadá, Byla kdysi válka a Svrhněte bomby.
