Abstract: Borrelia burgdorferi sensu lato is a complex of pathogenic spirochetes causing a serious, multi-organ infection, Lyme disease. Lyme disease is mainly transmitted to humans by infected ticks of the genus Ixodes. Currently, there are more than 20 Borrelia species known. Borrelia is an extracellular pathogen and expresses a high number of immunogenic outer membrane proteins necessary for infection and maintenance within the tick and the host. The thesis deals with methods used for investigating the interaction of Borrelia with tick cell lines.
