Tato práce se zabývá vzájemným vztahem prezidenta Spojených států s americkou veřejností. V rámci vymezeného tématu zkoumám způsoby, jakými veřejnost projevuje své mínění vůči prezidentovi a jaké faktory a události ovlivňují prezidentovo veřejné hodnocení. V mé práci dále analyzuji vztah amerického prezidenta s veřejností i z druhé strany - tedy komunikační strategie, které prezident využívá k získání podpory veřejného mínění. Nezbytnou součástí prezidentova vztahu s veřejností je zaměřování její pozornosti na konkrétní téma své agendy a následné rámování veřejné debaty o něm, čímž může prezident ovlivnit, na základě jakých preferencí bude hodnocen. Protože důležitou roli ve formování veřejného mínění sehrávají média, práce se zabývá také prezidentovým přístupem k médiím a komunikací s nimi. Z pohledu Rottinghausovy teorie vedení veřejného mínění analyzuji jednotlivé metody komunikace s veřejností a jejich potencionální vliv na zvýšení prezidentovy podpory. Posledním tématem mé práce je role veřejné podpory a popularity v procesu tvorby politiky, konkrétně při prosazování prezidentových návrhů v Kongresu a také v situaci, kdy je prezidentovo přesvědčení v rozporu s veřejným míněním. Důležitou součástí mé práce je i analýza vztahu prezidenta George W. Bushe s veřejností, prostřednictvím čehož se... This thesis deals with the mutual relationship of the U.S. president with American public. Within this theme I investigate the ways in which the public expresses its opinion of the president, and which factors and issues influence presidential public ratings. Further, I analyze the relationship of the president with the public from the other side - it means communication strategies which the president employs in order to gain support of public opinion. An essential part of public relations is focusing public attention on a concrete issue of the president's agenda and subsequent framing of public debate about it. Through this process, the president can determine preferences which the public uses during their evaluation of the president's job. The media play an important role in forming public opinion, therefore my thesis deals with the president's approach to the media and with his communication with them as well. From the view of the Rottinghaus's theory of public opinion leadership, I analyze particular methods of presidential public relations and their potential influence on the growth of public support.
