Serotonin je neurotransmiter podílející se na regulaci mnoha fyziologických funkcí. Hlavní serotoninergní neurony se vyskytují v rafeálních jádrech mozkového kmene. Rafeální jádra inervují mnoho oblastí mozku včetně mozkové kůry a hipokampu. Tyto struktury jsou důležité pro řízení vyšších kognitivních funkcí. 5HT1A receptor je jedním z mnoha podtypů serotoninových receptorů a jeho aktivací dochází k inhibici vzniku akčních potenciálů. 5HT1A receptor je exprimován presynapticky jako autoreceptor v rafeálních jádrech. Aktivací 5HT1A autoreceptorů dochází ke sníženému výdeji serotoninu v cílových strukturách. Tato klíčová pozice mu tak umožňuje regulovat hladinu serotoninu v mozku. 5HT1A receptor se také vyskytuje postsynapticky jako heteroreceptor v hipokampu a mozkové kůře, kde ovlivňuje výlev mnoha dalších neurotransmiterů. Experimentální studie naznačují, že ovlivněním funkce 5HT1A receptoru může dojít ke zlepšení řady neuropsychiatrických onemocnění například schizofrenie, úzkosti a deprese, a také ke zmírnění kognitivního deficitu. Předpokládá se, že aktivace 5HT1A autoreceptorů a inhibice 5HT1A heteroreceptorů může vést k pozitivnímu ovlivnění kognitivních schopností. Zdá se, že presynaptické 5HT1A autoreceptory jsou citlivější k farmakologickému ovlivnění než postsynaptické 5HT1A heteroreceptory. Proto... Serotoin is a neurotransmitter participating in regulation of many physiologic fuctions. Main serotogenous neurons can be found in nukleus raphe of the brain stem. Nucleus raphe inervates many areas of the brain including the cerebal cortex and hipocampus. These structures are important for controling of higher cognitive functions. 5HT1A receptor is one of many subtypes of serotonin receptors and its activation inhibits iniciating of the action potencials. 5HT1A receptor is expressed presynapticaly as an autorecpetor in nucleus raphe. Activation of 5HT1A receptors decreased the output of the serotonin in the target structures. This key position enables to regulate the serotonin level in the brain. 5HT1A receptor can be found also postsynapticaly as an heteroreceptor in the hippocampus and in the brain cortex, where it affects the output of many other neurotransmitters. Experimental studies indicate that affecting of the 5HT1A function can improve many neuropsychiatric disorders such as schizophrenia, anxiety, depresion and it can also moderate the congitive deficit. It is supposed that the activation of 5HT1A autoreceptors and the inhibition of 5HT1A heteroreceptors can positively affect the cognigtive abilities.
