Práce si klade za cíl představit imigraci Čechů na území Spojených států, jejich kulturní a především literární a žurnalistickou činnost, první čechoamerická periodika a jejich redaktory. V druhé části se pak práce zaměřuje na popis těchto periodik, konkrétně týdeníků Národní Noviny a Slávie, a to jak formální, tak obsahový. Na závěr je provedena analýza rubriky inzerce. Analýza se týká stránky hláskoslovné, tvaroslovné a lexikální. Představuje základní rysy jazyka v těchto rovinách a jejich vývoj od roku 1860 do roku 1894. The aim of this work is to introduce the immigration of Czech people to the USA and their cultural and especially literary and journalistic activities, the first Czech-American periodicals and their editors. The second part of this work deals with the description of these periodicals, namely with both content and formal description of the weekly periodicals Národní Noviny and Slávie. The last part of the work brings the analysis of the advertising section. Graphyc, morphology and lexicon are analysed. Based on this analysis, main characteristics of the language levels mentioned and their changes between 1860 and 1894 are given.
