Tato diplomová práce si klade za cíl zpracovat historii vzniku a působení náboženského hnutí dievturība v meziválečném Lotyšsku. Jeho činnost byla přerušena na začátku sovětské okupace v roce 1940, poté bylo obnoveno v exilu, především ve Spojených státech, kde jeho přívrženci vybudovali významné lotyšské kulturní centrum. Pokračuje i v nezávislém Lotyšsku po roce 1990, kde se sbory dievturisů dodnes snaží dostat se do povědomí širší veřejnosti. Práce se dále zabývá nástinem počátků myšlenek tohoto hnutí, jeho kontakty s folklorními skupinami, vztahem jeho vyznavačů k politice a k médiím a především významem dievturīby pro utváření moderní lotyšské kultury a společnosti. Pozornost je věnována především zakladateli hnutí Ernestsi Brastiņšovi, jeho životu, myšlenkám a plánům spojeným hlavně se snahou o obnovu národní duchovní kultury. V práci je dále vyčleněn prostor pro názory kritiků učení tohoto hnutí a pro objasnění konceptu starolotyšského náboženství, z nějž dievturība do jisté míry vychází. Zvláštní pozornost je věnována pojetí trojice božstev Dievs - Laime - Māra. Dievturība je zasazena do širšího kontextu pobaltského a novopohanského hnutí a s ním spojeného proudu New Age. Své ohlasy našlo toto hnutí i v lotyšské literatuře, především v mytologizující próze Jānise Veselise, jejíž vrchol... The aim of this thesis is to describe origins, history, activity and influence of a Latvian religious movement called Dievturība, established in Latvia in the interwar period, interruption of their activities as a consequence of the Soviet occupation in 1940 and its renewal in exile, especially in the United States, where the followers of Dievturība built an important Latvian cultural centre, as well as its rebirth in the independent Latvia after 1990. With the help of the American Dievturi Latvian followers try to gain more attention through organizing cultural events and raise public awareness of Dievturība. Furthermore the thesis surveys origins of the movement's doctrine, contacts of Dievturība with folklore groups, attitude of its followers, Dievturi, towards politics and media and especially the significance of Dievturība for forming the modern Latvian society. Special attention is paid to Ernests Brastiņš, a founder of the movement, to his life, thoughts, ideas and plans connected with his effort to revive Latvian national cultural consciousness. There are also important the views of critics of Dievturība's doctrine and its understanding of pre-Christian Latvian religion, to which Dievturība relates.
